Read an Excerpt

Our object as spirits was to become like the Father, and for this purpose He ordained and established certain laws for our advancement and progress. We, through our obedience, move along the path designated by our Father in Heaven toward his ultimate goal, for he has declared that his work and glory is " to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man" (Moses 1:39).

In the spirit existence, as in this mortal life, some were more intelligent than others and had varying degrees of ability and power. Regardless of ability or intelligence, however, each spirit possessed his or her own agency—a power given to each individual by the Father. The eternal law of free agency was the birthright of every individual spirit child of our Father in Heave. Agency gave them the ability to act for themselves.

Of our existence in this premortal state we know very little, and although certain specifics are revealed, even these are limited. Where such revelation is given it would appear that its main purpose is to shed light upon the premortal God ship of Jesus Christ.
