Home for the first Christmas after her father's death, New York-based author Grace Madison, crushed by a dismal review of her latest book, doesn't think things could be worse. First she slides into a snowbank and is rescued by Luke Hastings, the one person she'd hoped to avoid, and then she learns that her family's beloved bookstore—her personal sanctuary—must be sold. She might be able to save it, but for that she needs Luke's help. It seems, however, that Grace and Luke have a difficult, painful past they must lay to rest, and while the outcome of their relationship (or Grace's other decisions) is never in doubt, it's getting there that makes this such an appealing story. VERDICT Sweet, tender, and burgeoning with Christmas spirit and New England appeal, this engaging reunion tale sees one couple blissfully together, artfully setting the stage for the next book in the series.
