This book helps students differentiate between fact and fiction with two stories written side by side. On the left side of the text is the nonfiction version stating facts about baboons, mandrills, and monkeys. On the right side of the text is a fictional story about a monkey named Maniac Mel who likes to play tricks on other monkeys, particularly Mr. Mandrill, the local store owner. At the end of the book are a few simple questions asking readers to decide if a line is fact or fiction. Also included are the two stories written on their own pages without the illustrations. The text is easy to read, however it may be confusing for beginning readers to follow along two story lines simultaneously. This book is part of the "Sand Castle Animal Tales" series.
