It is rare that an author can execute a book as well as Murdoch Hughes has managed with MURDER IN LA PAZ. I found the story to be engaging and consistent throughout, with well thought-out characters. MURDER IN LA PAZ is very enjoyable to read, and surprisingly, (our tastes in literature being very different) my wife and I agreed on how engrossing and entertaining the book is. Baja lovers will recognize all of their old stomping grounds in the background of the action. The plot moves thick and fast, and Murdoch Hughes even has a few Dashiell Hammett-like moments with his hard-boiled prose. This dead-eye Dick writing style livens up the whole novel, making it a fun poolside read.
