About the Author

Moving from place to place as a young child and teen, Teresa treated her childhood as an adventure. She grew up in the Northwest, in the state of Washington. Having what her grandmother referred to as her Gypsy way, she found herself venturing away out to the islands of Hawaii, and then returning to Vancouver, Washington. She now refers to this as home. Growing up she was spirited, happy, and protected by her mother’s love and resourceful ways. Supported by the love of her mom, three amazing brothers, and of course her Gram’s tenderness and forgiving heart, she lived happily and fearlessly. Sports was her main focus for many years. After her mother’s decision to divorce, it was then that she and her brothers were aware of exactly how scarce money truly was. Her family worked, played, and prayed together in order to buy the necessities. Help from others was hard to accept, and they were a family with pride. Love was never lacking in their home. They sat high on the mountain of faith! At the young age of fifteen she found that her unwise decisions would bring her struggles, and shortly after, the most beautiful gift, a baby girl at just seventeen years of age. She then found herself doing seasonal field work in the lower Yakima Valley and also working part-time at a Headstart program in order to help provide the necessities to feed and care for her own family. It was working at a Headstart program that she realized she loved the joy and excitement found on children’s faces after they learned to read. She also related to their struggles financially and emotionally. Compassion, kindness, and a giving heart are rules she lives by. Teaching children to read, just as she did her own three children, has been some of her proudest moments. Now she is looking forward to spending the rest of her life in love and laughter with her growing family and giving thanks to God. Difficult times and unusual situations have provided Teresa with the opportunities to explore, and understand how others live and are able to conquer their own struggles today as young children and as young parents.
