Children may have heard of Albert Einstein but do not know what is fact or not, Einstein taught himself math and science and eventually formed new theories about time and space. Teachers can use this book to introduce, reinforce, or review Einstein and the contributions he made. The book includes a glossary, index, and table of contents, all of which can be used to teach children about nonfiction text features. Einstein’s life is presented chronologically, from his birth in Germany to his final days in the United States of America. A really cool feature of this book is that the author provides definitions of difficult words, such as theory and patent, on the edges of the page. The glossary located in the back of the book has child-friendly definitions and gives a picture of each word so readers can visualize what the word is or means. Facts are written in a way that intermediate readers can comprehend and find interesting. For example, Einstein hated socks and loved playing violin. The pictures are relevant to the life of Albert Einstein, showing him in school and with his family, along with concepts he discovered, helping the reader to gain a better understanding of who he was and what he did. Readers can test their understanding of the book with the Quiz Whiz, located in the back of the book. This book is part of the “Readers Bios” series and would be great to use in the classroom or at home to teach nonfiction text as well as to learn about a well-known scientist!
