Notebooks
Notebooks are the journals I kept through my years at Lafayette College and my first job with NBC News. It provides a unique experience into my mind and life during a time in America many called "The Silent Generation." To anyone who lived through that period, we were far from a silent. Our parents and thus our lives were coming off World War II and then the Korean War. America was changing very fast. As a young man I was part of that change. I was searching for myself, trying to discover who I was through the life I was leading, the friends I had, my lost and found loves, the jazz of the era, the books, movies and TV shows that I read and viewed that had an affect on my life. I believe that what I wrote then and that I present now will resonate strongly with the current generation as America once again is undergoing significant changes. Previously I published the work as a running blog and then on Scribd where it had almost 7,000 hits. Looking for a new audience, I decided to publish Notebooks on Pubit as a Nook book that is an addition to my other books on Barnes&Noble. By reading the Notebooks, it is my hope you will take part in a distinctive, yet possible set of similar experiences.

About the Author

At NBC News I worked my way from a film assignment desk, to David Brinkley's assistant in Washington and then as a writer/field producer for the Huntley-Brinkley news show. I then moved into documentary production and from there I went to Saigon as bureau chief in the Vietnam War. After Saigon I went to Hong Kong as Southeast Asia bureau chief and then onto London as London bureau chief. I was general manager of news specials in New York during Watergate and then Washington producer for Today. Following that I was senior producer for politics and then special events for Today and NBC News. I was co-creator of Early Today and a producer Sunday Today. After leaving NBC, I worked for ABC News and produced many documentaries for A&E, TLC, Discovery, History Channel and Lifetime. I currently am a partner in Douglas/Steinman Productions and the producer/director of the documentary films, "Luboml: My Heart Remembers," "My Grandfather's House." and "I Thought I Could Fly." I am the author of "The Soldiers' Story," "Women in Vietnam," and "Death in Saigon," a novel. All are Nook books. My memoir about the Vietnam War, "Inside Television's First War: A Saigon Journal," will be published by NBC Publishing in January 2013 as an e-book and an enhanced e-book. I have many awards for my work as a journalist and a filmmaker, including a shared Peabody, a National Press Club award, an International Documentary Association award, Women in TV and Radio award and five Emmy nominations.
