About the Author

Maxine Rosenthal started quilting about fifteen years ago. She used to make clothing, but never anything as large or as time-consuming as a quilt. Maxine did many things before quilting. She had a career writing computer software, and even took a break from that to learn furniture refinishing, which she considered a walk through history. She was commissioned to make a quilt for the movie Grumpier Old Men, and still has a copy of the check from Warner Bros. But, like many, her appearance ended up on the cutting-room floor. Maxine started making kaleidoscope blocks with hexagons and octagons almost as soon as she began quilting. Maxine resides in Minnesota.

Joy Pelzmann has enjoyed a long and varied series of careers. Trained as a researcher in college, she went on to receive a Ph.D. in counseling psychology. Her academic career involved research, teaching, and training. Art and its application to the home arts have been lifelong interests. Now, finally, she is able to devote herself to those on a full-time basis. Immersed in her work as a quilt artist, she returns to teaching and training as a way of sharing her playful approach to art with others. Mother of three and grandmother of four, she sees life as a series of wonderful moments to be enjoyed and sometimes captured, but always appreciated.
