Original Jaguar MkI/MkII: The Restorer's Guide to MkI, MkII, 240/340 and Daimler V8

Dramatic increases in the values of the Mark I and Mark II family have stimulated renewed interest in these most prized of all Jaguar saloons. Many examples have been rejuvenated by professional restorers and mechanically minded owners, but how many of these cars boast the completely original and authentic specification which the most discerning enthusiasts now demand? The information needed to determine how a restored car should look and what parts it should contain can be hard to find, but now help is at hand for all owners, restorers and enthusiasts in Original Jaguar MkI/MkII. Drawing from factory records, parts books, catalogs and service bulletins, as well as the accumulated knowledge of the author and respected Jaguar restorers, this book provides the evidence of what constitutes an authentic Jaguar Mark II. More than 150 color photographs show every inch of our eight carefully selected cars. Seven of these have been preserved in remarkably original condition; the other has been restored with fastidious attention to originality. From 2.4-liter Mark I to Daimler V8 250, every permutation of specification is covered in superb detail.

About the Author

Nigel Thorley is very well known in the Jaguar fraternity, being one of the founding members of the world’s largest Jaguar club, the Jaguar Enthusiasts’ Club. He was brought up with these cars as his father and elder brother always owned them, and he bought his first Jaguar for the princely sum of just £50 at the age of 18. Since then he has owned more than 70 Jaguars and Daimlers, including 16 Mk2s and a couple of S-types, so he knows these cars intimately, and he still runs a Jaguar as everyday transport. He has written more than 20 books, mainly on the Jaguar marque, and continues to edit the monthly 140-page Jaguar Enthusiast magazine for the Jaguar Enthusiasts’ Club, of which he is a director. In addition to Jaguars his other passions are Triumph cars, photography, Rotary and more recently his grandchildren. Nigel lives in Yorkshire with his wife Pauline.

Nigel Thorley has been involved with Jaguars from a very early age, his father and older brother having owned many examples of the marque. One of his earliest memories is of traveling in the passenger seat of his father's SS 21/2-liter saloon at the age of five. Since learning to drive, Nigel has owned all kinds of Jaguars, including no fewer than sixteen examples of the MkII series. This practical experience has allowed him to study this Jaguar model range in depth over many years, making him ideally qualified to write this book. He has been a director of the Jaguars Drivers' Club and at one time was editor of its magazine, Jaguar Driver. Subsequently he was founder member and chairman of the Jaguar Enthusiasts' Club, today being a director of the club and editor of the magazine, Jaguar Enthusiast. As well as many magazine articles about Jaguar, he has written over twenty books on the marque and its models.
