Pages '09 Creating a Book for Distribution: Print, PDF, and ePub
Learn how to use Apple's Pages '09 to create a book that can be distributed in a variety of formats. From adding the first page to publishing an ePub, this step-by-step guide will provide you with the necessary skills to control your book's layout. Display footers and page numbers properly; manage styles; understand section breaks and other layout tools that baffle many users of this word processing application.

Written in a conversational style with many tips and insights, the book was designed for a beginner and written by a professional technical writer. You will feel that you have an instructor sitting next to you as you learn the program from the point of view of a writer.

This is not a book that will show you how to use the intuitive layout templates provided by Pages; but a very specific use of word processing - the creation of a book.

The last chapter focuses on getting your book ready for ePub distribution with recommendations on using free or inexpensive online resources, such as a conversion tool for devices that require a proprietary format.

About the Author

I grew up in the Pacific Northwest during the ‘60s when [I believe] it rained for 10 months of the year. The weather has improved a lot since then, but as a native Oregonian I’m still obligated to tell you that it rains each and every day.

After several years of drying-out in other parts of the hemisphere I got serious about my education and eventually moved back to Oregon and obtained an associates degree in Computer Field Service from Portland Community College. After several years of work and life experience I graduated from Charter Oak State College in New Britain, Connecticut with a degree in Technical Communications.

My work background was primarily in writing technical guides, online help systems, and other publications for users of hardware and software within the semiconductor industry. Here I spent 15 years as a technical writer and department manager before retiring and traveling extensively throughout Asia.

Now, I enjoy writing about anything that interests me, which is a lot because the world is a fascinating theater where actors like myself can benefit from better direction and clarity in our scripts. Hopefully, the books on this site will help fill this need.
