PAT SKAKEL AT MAPLEHURST
A wonderful little book of photographs of the Maplehurst Class of 1942 homemade yearbook of thirteen girls, including Pat Skakel and her bff, "America's Own Vera" --Vera Dillon (the author's mother). The stories are what my mother told me my whole life, including visiting Pat in Ireland in 1966. Some of the Kenned girls are in the story, including Pat Kennedy. Maplehurst, Convent of the Sacred Heart was in a beautiful estate in the Bronx overlooking the Harlem River. These pictures and words illustrate how Maplehurst was marvelous experience. They put on the Shakespeare play, "A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM" and Pat Skakel played "Titania:, the Queen o the fairies. Ethel Skakel, her little sister married Robert F. Kennedy. Many of the Maplehurst girls graduated to Manhattanville College in Harlem , Rose Kennedy's alma mater, where Mother Dammann taught "Do Truth in charity." So this shows the true heart of the Kennedys, Tuth, beauty, love, charity, and such. My mother was called "America's Own Vera" and won the Maplehurst Alumnae prize for the Best Essay. So it's a grand story book! Not that exciting, perhaps, other than Pat Skakel was late for Meditation, Pat Kenedy got caught smoking, and Vera Dillon "helped win the war by dancing her way into the hearts of our boys at U.S.O. dance halls!"
