This is a well put together field guide in the "Pebble First Grade" series for young readers learning to identify these beautiful, common songbirds, many of which can be seen and heard in the reader's own backyard. Photographs are nicely placed around the basic information on each bird's height, wingspan, what each one eats, where they live, and other basic facts. The additional photos of eggs and nests, along with pictures of each bird, show the variety of colors and size, a helpful guide for a teacher or parent working with children. This book is the perfect size and shape to use as an identification tool when taking children out into the field to explore. Male songbirds each have a unique voice to communicate with to find a mate or warn other male birds to stay away. Some songbirds like the Northern Mockingbird can copy a song or sound.
