Peter as the First Witness of the Risen Lord: An Historical and Theological Investigation
The correct way to understand the ministry of Peter has long been a serious ecumenical problem. Recently this ministry has been seen increasingly in light of the role assigned Peter at Easter. The Easter aspect of Peter's leadership was rediscovered in 19th century studies on church origins. In the 20th century Peter's Easter witness has been regarded in various ways in studies on the resurrection, on Christology, on Peter, and on the church. This study considers the prospects for this theme, especially in light of contemporary notions of the roles of Mary Magdalen and of the papal ministry.
