John Bunyan (1628 – 1688) was an English writer and preacher best remembered as the author of the religious allegory The Pilgrim's Progress. In addition to The Pilgrim's Progress, Bunyan wrote nearly sixty titles, many of them expanded sermons.
The "Pharisee and the Publican" is a work by John Bunyan in which he refers to the famous parable. That parable of Jesus that appears in the Gospel of Luke demonstrates the need to pray humbly and asks for mercy. He spoke also this parable to certain people who were convinced of their own righteousness, and who despised all others.
