How can something as cute as a dart frog be poisonous? After all, they have bright colors that attract people to touch them. On the contrary, their bright colors warn predators that they are dangerous. Hunters find poison dart frogs useful as they rub their darts on frogs' skin, then use the poison darts to kill small animals. The over two hundred seventy types of poison dart frogs live in the rain forests of Central America and South America where the damp weather keeps their skin moist. They can grow up to almost two and a half inches long. Baby poison dart frogs live in water, while adults live on land. They catch beetles, ants, and other insects for food by using their long, sticky tongue. Large, vivid, color illustrations of poison dart frogs are shown to correspond with the text. A glossary is included to introduce early readers to possibly unfamiliar words and their definitions. Although most of the words are age appropriate for early readers, an adult may need to help them pronounce and comprehend some words in the table of contents, sources listed for further reading, recommended Internet sites, and index.
