Purpose: Dr. Hong succeeds masterfully in bringing this highly complex subject matter to sorely needed summary and synthesis.
Audience: This book is written with the specialist in mind. As such, it is to be valued by life science graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and researchers.
Features: In terms of overall organization, there is a separate chapter for each of the key steps involved in the exocytotic pathway. Each step and its significance are consistently dealt with in a clear and straightforward manner. In each case, this is then followed by a detailed accounting of the key molecular players that have been implicated in that step. Given the breadth and difficulty of the subject matter, the book is remarkably well organized, complete, and up-to-date. The book includes a number of informative figures and tables that serve as valuable aids for summarizing and generalizing, but in some cases could have benefited from a more artistic approach to figure design.
Assessment: I highly recommend this book for the specialist.
