Description: This update could not come at a better time. Given the various pressures related to the need to justify diagnosis, hospital stay, or treatment outcomes, the use of assessments helps us in our everyday practice. The need for an updated, comprehensive case study guide that reflects current clinical and research work has finally been met.
Purpose: The purpose of this second edition is to cover test settings that were not covered in the first edition: computer and Internet testing formats, forensic, and cross-cultural English language learners. In addition, this edition has revised cases in neuropsychology, education, employment, and mental health, to name just a few.
Audience: This is intended as a supplementary book for undergraduate and graduate measurement courses and for trainers of specialized assessment practitioners. However, one can easily use this book across many areas beyond education and teaching, such as current practice, research applications, and as a resource.
Features: The 85 cases include 28 new ones, and the remainder have been revised or edited. Readers would be hard-pressed not to find a number of cases that apply to their current professional work. Notable cases involve expert testimony, appearances on television shows, personnel screening, selecting and designing tests, administration and scoring of tests, interpretation pitfalls, and reporting of test results. Each case is broken down by the assessment setting, the incident, focus questions, analysis, and the competencies and elements involved.
Assessment: I am extremely impressed with this book and would strongly recommend it without reservation to any member of the field involved in designing, administering, interpreting, or discussing assessments.
