Ruth First
The second part in a two-part series, Ruth First records the life of the radical political activist, scholar and one of the foremost journalists of her time. As a member of the Communist Party, she had an insider's view on the extraordinary social, political and labour struggles that took place in South Africa from the end of the Second World War until her exile in 1963. Her books are academic landmarks in political analysis and her account of detention and interrogation by the Security Police remains one of the most important exposures of imprisonment to come out of South Africa. Ruth First was assassinated by South African agents in Mozambique in 1983.

Author Biography: Don Pinnock, previously a researcher at the UCT Institute of Criminology, is an accomplished author and journalist> he is currently the Deputy-editor of Getaway Magazine in South Africa.
