In Fang of the Vampire, ten-year-old werewolf Luke Watson and his parents were kidnapped and taken to Scream Street, abode of vampires, mummies, and other monsters. Luke has made friends with the neighbors, but his normal parents are terrifiedalmost to death. Luke's only hope of getting them out of Scream Street is an old book and six ancient relics hidden throughout the neighborhood. He and his friends already have found the fang of Count Negatov; now they must uncover the blood of witch Nelly Twist before the evil Sir Otto does. Donbavand has created a fantastical, Tim Burton-worthy world peopled with engaging characters and deliciously evil villains. As with Fang of the Vampire, this book is at times a bit graphic and matureincluding talk of inebriated zombies "wasted" on brain shakesbut its young, fresh humor balances out otherwise scary and adult material. Young readers also will be excited about the two "Scream Street" series trading cards included in the back of each installment in the series. Reviewer: Cara Chancellor
What better way to feed the neighborhood vampires than to pipe blood from residents' cuts and nosebleeds straight into kitchen taps? And how better to foil Luke's mission to free his folks than to cut off this vital (if icky) blood supply to Luke's best vampire friend? What's more, the local sewer rats have been accidentally turned into raging vampire rodents. Now Luke and his pals must keep the critters at bay while searching for the second crucial relic-a vial of witch's blood-while avoiding being turned into vampires themselves.
