The story of this book is that of Drew Ferran, who was a shepherd that turned into a werewolf and was also a king. If he becomes King, he will be able to bring peace to the land. He is captured by an evil Lizard lord and is forced to take part in gladiator battles. It is during those battles that he figures out the secret weapon that he can use to against the Lions. I was absolutely astounded at how quickly I was caught up in this in the story and had no intention of putting the book down until I finished it. The descriptions used throughout the book are detailed, making the reader feel like they are there and can actually feel the anguish as well as excitement that occurred. Eight preview pages of the next book in the series are included at the. I would recommend that this series be read in order. Will be best for middle school and older readers; I do think that both boys and girls will enjoy it. Reviewer: Kathie M. Josephs
