About the Author

Solomon Schechter (1847-1915) was a Romanian and English rabbi and academic who came to the United States in 1902.  He is best known as a founder and President of the United Synagogue of America, later the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism, and President of the Jewish Theological Seminary of America.  He was an early advocate of Zionism.
