About the Author

Hans Augusto Rey was born in Hamburg, Germany in 1898. As a child, he spent much of his free time in that city's famous Hagenbeck Zoo drawing animals. After serving in the army during World War I, he married Margret Rey and they moved to Montmartre for four years. The manuscript for the first Curious George books was one of the few items the Reys carried with them on their bicycles when they escaped from Paris in 1940. Eventually, they made their way to the United States, and Curious George was published in 1941. Curious George has been published in numerous languages. And many, many Curious George books have followed.

George is a good little monkey, but he is very curious. The man in the yellow hat brought him a new book to read at bedtime. The little book was about a chick that thought the sky was falling. Listening to the story made it hard for George to sleep. He was afraid that the sky might actually fall. The man in the yellow hat showed George the sky and the stars through a telescope. When George saw the night sky, do you think he was able to fall asleep? Authors Margret and H.A. Rey have put together a fun installment to the “Curious George series for kids who might have trouble sleeping. Colorful illustrations help little ones “read” this story even if they do not know the words. Reviewer: Kristi Bernard; Ages 5 to 7.

Written in the Margret Rey's style and illustrated in H. A. Rey's sensibility, this picture book adds to the "Curious George" collection. This time, the inquisitive monkey learns about the stars and how to love to read without being scared by the stories. The first story the man with the yellow hat reads to George at bedtime is "Chicken Little." George loves it, but later that night he awakens from a scary dream with the thought that the sky really is falling. His yellow-hatted friend assures him that is not the case, and he gives George a glass of warm milk. When the little monkey spills that, his friend reads a book about a train rushing to get a special package to a little girl. George gets so excited that he bounces in his bed, so Mr. Yellow Hat sings him a song. Nope, no way our little monkey is going to sleep. He shows his friend the "Chicken Little" book and points to the ceiling. Equipped with a nice big telescope, George and friend go to the back yard for some stargazing. The little monkey realizes the stars are still high in the sky and not about to fall on him. Finally, he is sleepy enough that he no longer worries about the sky falling. This is a nice addition to the series, which addresses the fears children might have after hearing bedtime stories. Reviewer: Sarah Maury Swan
