Overview

Eighty-seven percent of high school seniors have tried alcohol and, according to a Gallup Youth Survey, 27 percent of teenagers say it is very easy for them to get alcoholic beverages. Alcohol is a contributor to the three leading causes of death for teens and young adults: automobile crashes, homicides, and suicides. This volume will explore several issues facing young people, including binge drinking and cross-addiction.

It takes a hard look at alcohol and the effect it has on the human body. The book includes a brief history of alcohol consumption, peer pressure, alcohol influenced behavior, and recent campaigns by high schools and colleges to end underage drinking, the book provides hard facts on the dangerous trend of drinking among teenagers. Although young people have always been tempted by alcohol, today's youth seem to have more money and unsupervised free time leading to riskier behaviors. More importantly, recent studies show that teens younger than 15 who drink are more likely to develop alcohol problems.
