Only two short months after Tent City was dismantled two homes were purchased with several thousand dollars that were donated to help the men and women of Tent City. Sadly, many former residents found themselves back on the streets sleeping in tents, not benefiting from the goodwill intended to offer them hope.

Many residents stated, these actions hurt them more than Mayor Danny Jones' dismantling of Tent City.

We received several hundred emails and private messages, some threats, from several people who were upset with the book's outcome. They believed the book seemed to be one sided and fabricated by one individual's story; completely conflicting with how the residents and community of Charleston, West Virginia described the aftermath of Tent City.

This news broke our hearts, as our sole intention was to help the men and women of Tent City and bring awareness to their plight. We hoped this greater awareness would bring forth a solution for the residents of Tent City and strengthen their community as a whole.

Being strong believers of truth and justice, we thought it was best to have the whole story told. Broken-hearted and angry as hell, we dug deeper into the story connecting with many more of the residents of Tent City and those left in its aftermath. As they shared with us on a deeper level their experiences, we now realize we were misled and crucial pieces of this important story were withheld from us.

Since Tent City: Tragedy Turned Triumph has been retired.

Now, we are pleased to bring you the true story of Tent City by those who lived it.

All proceeds are being donated to homeless and child abuse organizations.

About the Author

Donna Kshir is a writer who seeks truth and justice for children exposed to abuse. She speaks out and writes against these injustices done onto children. Donna's work has landed her on the Barnes and Nobles, and Amazon's bestsellers list multiple times. She is best known for her teen sensation 'A Story of Survival' that tells a heart-felt story of a young boy being abused while in the foster care system.

Donna is also a child advocate and the Founder/President of Advocates United for Humanity. She united with Erin's Law to create awareness for childhood sexual abuse in her 2013 release 'Silent Screams' and she received the NNPAAW Award in 2012, 2013, 2014 and a 2016 nominee of the Pinnacle Achievement Awards for independent authors.

In the Fall of 2015, Donna created a series of children's books with her grandchildren, and a historical series titled, Renovo Storytellers where she shares short stories by those who lived it; in her home town nestled in the endless mountains of Pennsylvania.


Lee Roberts is an Author, Child and Animal Rights Advocate-Activist who also fights for Deaf and Disabled rights & accessibility. She is a biker, survivor and Internet Radio Host for Your Voice Radio and Founder of Advocates United for Humanity. She enjoys volunteering her time as she is able to for the causes close to her heart. Lee is also Deaf.

Lee has been writing since she was a young teenager and she shares that love of poetry with family and friends. She had multiple works professionally chosen and published in the literary magazine In the Write Mind two consecutive years in 1994 and 1995 when she studied at Central Florida Community College. Lee also has three of her poems published in the book Silent No More. The book is a compilation of works by survivors from around the world. Silent No More was published in 2011 in the UK with proceeds going to charity.

Lee released her first complete book of poetry titled Pieces of Me on February 29, 2016, has collaborated on multiple books and is always working on one project or another. When she's not helping others or writing, this New England transplant chic lives contentedly with her Certified Service Chihuahua Otis surrounded by the beauty of nature and wildlife in the Panhandle of Florida.
