About the Author

THE 52-STORY TREEHOUSE

Hi, my name is Andy.

This is my friend Terry.

We live in a tree.

Well, when I say "tree," I mean treehouse. And when I say "treehouse," I don't just mean any old treehouse — I mean a 52-story treehouse!

(It used to be a 39-story treehouse, but we've added another 13 stories.)

a rocket-powered carrot-launcher,
a giant hair dryer that is so strong it practically blasts the
hair right off your head,
a rocking horse racetrack,
a haunted house,
a wave machine,
a life-size snakes and ladders game — with
real ladders and real snakes,
a 24-hours-a-day, 7-days-a-week, nonstop Punch and
Judy puppet show,
a remembering booth to help us remember important
stuff we might have forgotten,

Andy and Terry live in a gigantic and convoluted treehouse with, at the moment, fifty-two stories. It has all kinds of games and gadgets for their amusement. However, they are supposed to be finishing work on their latest novel—not playing. Their editor, Mr. Big Nose, usually nags them about the deadline, but they have not heard a word from him. So they go to his office to see why he has been so quiet. He is not there, and his office is a mess, with lots of broken things and vegetable leaves strewn about. Turns out he's been kidnapped! Terry and Andy must find him so that he can remind them to finish their novel. As the story progresses, they end up in one pickle after another. They do, however, solve many mysteries and eventually save Mr. Big Nose. They even discover they have just written their novel. Middle-grade boys in particular will get a huge chortle out of this book, and there is enough going on to support classroom discussion about physics, chemistry and other physical sciences. The story is simplistic enough to appeal to reluctant readers, but amusing enough to hold better readers' interest. Reviewer: Sarah Maury Swan; Ages 8 to 12.
