CHAPTER 1
Hi, I am Dolly the Dollar Bill. Welcome to my second adventure as a traveling dollar bill. In my first book, saying goodbye to my friend Matilda was very sad for me but I knew I had to help out my friend Natalie. So let's return to the end of my first story where I am saying goodbye to Matilda.
As Matilda hugged Natalie, she said to Matilda "You are the best friend anyone ever had." "Anything for a friend" replied Matilda. Matilda thought to herself "Where do dollar bills travel to?" "All over the country I guess." Matilda kept wondering, "Where will my dollar bill go now that I gave it away?" Matilda grabbed her wallet, and began to eat her lunch with Natalie still thinking about her first dollar bill and if it would ever come back to her for safekeeping.
Dolly was very still in the cash register. She was very sad that she was separated from Matilda. Dolly decided she must make new friends with the other $1 one dollar bills, $5 five dollar bills, $10 ten dollar bills, the $20 twenty dollar bills and the coins. There were quarters, dimes, nickels and even the pennies in the cash register.
The $5 five dollar bill next to Dolly said "Hello, my name is Violet." "Hello" said Dolly. "Violet is a pretty name." "Thank you" replied Violet. "What is your name?" "My name is Dolly." "That is a nice name too" said Violet. "Thank you" Dolly replied. "I was printed at the Printing and Engraving in Washington, D. C." said Violet. "I was printed there too" Dolly replied. Many of the paper bills said "us too" and some of the quarters, dimes, nickels and pennies who replied "We were printed and coined in Washington D.C. as well." This made Dolly feel at home.
"Did any of you ever make a human friend?" Dolly asked. "Yes, many of the paper bills and coins yelled out." "We had to say goodbye to many of our friends too." "Matilda was my special friend and I am going to miss her so much" "Do you think we will ever see them again?" "I don't know" replied Billy, a courageous $10 ten dollar bill. "I am strong and think we should just all travel and see the world" Billy said. "You are a $10 ten dollar bill with lots of courage" replied Dolly." "Thank you Dolly, we have to have courage as money; we just don't know where we will end up and we cannot get attached to one person or place" said Billy. "I know," Dolly replied.
Suddenly the cashier drawer opened again and all the paper bills, including Dolly were whisked out. All of the paper bills were counted one by one and then the coins were counted. Dolly was put in the middle of the large stack of dollar bills and Violet was placed with the $5 five dollar stack of bills. "I hope we don't stay in here forever" thought Violet.
"We are out!" Dollly shouted. "I didn't think we would stay in there for a long time, said Billy." "Why not?" said Dolly. "Because we are in a cash register" replied Billy. "I think I was in a cash register at Matilda's school" Dolly replied. "We will go back to the bank or out into the world" said Billy. "I need change" said the lunch lady since I am leaving for my trip out west today." Dolly, Violet, Billy and other bills were placed in the lunch ladies wallet. "Here we go" shouted Billy happily. "Hang on tight everyone!"
"Hi" said the other money in the wallet. "Hello" said Dolly, Violet and Billy. "Where are you from?" "We just left the school lunch room; we were taken out of the cash register," said Violet. "This nice lady's name is Mary and she is going on a trip today" said another $1 one dollar bill. "Where is she going?" Dolly asked anxiously. "We hear she is going out to the western part of the United States" replied a $5 dollar bill. "Where is the western part of the United States?" asked Dolly? "I am not sure but we are going to find out" said a $20 twenty dollar bill.
"Yes," Billy replied, "I know where west is, I hope we are going to Hollywood or Las Vegas pals." "Where is that?" Violet asked. "Where we can have some fun and be free!!" Billy shouted loudly. "Las Vegas is money town." "Money town," Dolly thought. "I just want to go home to Washington D.C. where Matilda lives with her family.
