The Christian Family: A Biblical Perspective
This book is an eclectic study of some dimensions of the Christian Family. It is a Bible based analysis. This family is a monogamous union with at least one child. The father (husband) loves his wife (Eph. 5:25); provides substance for his family (Lk.11:11-13), and trains the child (Pr. 22:6). The wife respects/submits herself unto her husband (Eph. 5:22), is industrious in household chores and receives the blessing and praises of her children and husband (Pr. 31:28). She is, also, involved in the socialization-training-of the child/children. The child, as enjoined by the Bible, "Children, obey your parents in the Lord; for this is right..." (Eph. 5:1-3). Lastly, the children are to be brought... "Up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord", a major responsibility of the father. (Eph.5:4)

This book is a valuable resource for addition to the innumerable Sources on family life and child rearing. Unlike the secular orientation of most books and journal, The Christian Family is firmly anchored in biblical teachings. It can be used for family home study, both with the total family gathers or within an individual reading. Additionally, it has relevance for the clergy and/or Christian Education leaders as they prepare for their sermons and/or lectures on some aspects of the Christian family life.
E. G. Sherman, Jr., Ph.D. has three earned doctorate degrees. He is Professor Emeritus of Sociology, History, and Philosophy from Albany State University ( GA.), former Vice President of Academic Affairs at Bethany Divinity and Seminary, Dothan, Alabama, and Founding Pastor of Institutional First Baptist Church, Albany, GA. He is author of four religiously focused books and one academic Source along with numerous articles. Visit him online at:
