The Crusade
India today is plagued with the evils of black money and consequent rampant corruption, with impunity, resulting in fast degradation and erosion of moral and integrity standards. The panacea for this social is Total Industrialisation of Civil Engineering and to implement the same honestly. Both state and Central Governments have taken excellent steps and measures to control the primitive outdated grass-root causes of these social evils. Unfortunately, the civil engineering technocrats and bureaucrats working in Government Corporations, barring some honourable few exceptions, are not implementing the same. Since this is a very basic and burning social, national and technological issue, and whereas the unlimited vested interests are opposing any reforms in this mother industry, the Government, public and all concerned should at least now take cudgels to root out this malfeasance.
About the Author: "The Crusade", an autobiography of Baburao Govindrao Shirke-BGS to his myriad friends, admirers and followers also gives the biography of his lifelong mission to industrialise civil engineering. While he has accomplished his mission with unique dedication, the problems and vicissitudes, he had to face due to the unfortunate resistance of those who should have been the real torch-bearers of this technologies reform, namely the civil engineering fraternity, like their other colleagues in disciplines like food, agriculture, milk, oil, industry etc, make an exciting and inspiring reading, though with a tragic undertone.
BGS faced all tortures and heroically braved the anti-professional, anti-national, anti-social and anti-technological subjective procedural practices of the vested interests. In the process, he had almost reached near bankruptcy situations twice. Yet, he has shown remarkable resilience and forged ahead with the devoted support and assistance of his few well-wishers and followers and proved that his socially oriented technological policies and principles, namely this techno-economic-social-reform, are truly enduring and for the good of all.
BGS is a visionary-simple, frank, self-educated and self-made person-totally uncompromising about his mission and fully upright to the core, sincere and honest in his convictions and objectives, namely to accomplish his "mission"-come what may-as then only the acute burning problems of social mass housing and radiation of slums can be solved, without public funds, while generation of unlimited black money, with impunity, and the consequent rampant safe corruption can also be contained by this reform. This will also help to stop the wanton and criminal wastages, worth hundreds of billions of rupees every year, of scarce and costly national resources, like lime-stone, iron ore, forest produce, coal, foods-grain and energy. He desires to arrest these national wastes by the use of modern progress of science and technology in his selected three disciplines, namely civil engineering, bulk storage, preservation and handling of food-grain and energy.
