The Dialogues
The dialogues, are a collection of four books of miracles, signs, wonders, and healings done by the holy men, in Italy. It was written in 593, by St. Gregory the Great, 3 years after he became pope.
The second book of the Dialogues, is the earliest and most authoritative account of St. Benedict that we possess. It, together with his Rule, is our only source for the story of his life and the understanding of his character. As has been well said, it is "the biography of the greatest Monk, written by the greatest Pope (himself also a Monk.)"
