ROBERT JORDAN was a New York Times, USA Today, Wall Street Journal, Entertainment Weekly, Washington Post, and Toronto Globe and Mail bestselling author.

CHUCK DIXON, considered one of the best writers of Batman of the last decade, works closely with the Jordan estate on the Wheel of Time adaptations.

MARCIO FIORITO has illustrated for Anne Elizabeth's Pulse of Power, among other works. He was born in Brazil.

FRANCIS NUGUIT is a comic-book illustrator from the Philippines.

Robert Jordan was born in 1948 in Charleston, South Carolina. He taught himself to read when he was four with the incidental aid of a twelve-years-older brother, and was tackling Mark Twain and Jules Verne by five. He is a graduate of The Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina, with a degree in physics. He served two tours in Vietnam with the U.S. Army; among his decorations are the Distinguished Flying Cross with bronze oak leaf cluster, the Bronze Star with "V" and bronze oak leaf cluster, and two Vietnamese Gallantry Crosses with palm. A history buff, he has also written dance and theater criticism and enjoyed the outdoor sports of hunting, fishing, and sailing, and the indoor sports of poker, chess, pool, and pipe collecting. Robert Jordan began writing in 1977 and went on to write The Wheel of Time®, one of the most important and best selling series in the history of fantasy publishing with over 14 million copies sold in North America, and countless more sold abroad. Robert Jordan died on September 16, 2007, after a courageous battle with the rare blood disease amyloidosis.

Chuck Dixon is a comic book writer best known for his long runs on several Batman titles in the 1990’s for DC Comics. Throughout his prolific career, Dixon has written for Evangeline (Comico Comics), The Savage Sword of Conan, The Punisher War Journal (Marvel Comics), Robin, Nightwing, Detective Comics (DC Comics), and Simpsons Comics (Bongo Comics). Dixon worked closely with Robert Jordan on the graphic adaptation of New Spring and with Jordan’s estate on The Eye of the World graphic novel.

In this third installment of Dixon's graphic adaptation of Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time, a party of adventurers enters the ruined city of Shadar Logoth and is forced by pursuing Trollocs to split up in order to continue their quest. The rest of the story alternates among the separated members of the party as they find their way across the river, reach the city of Whitebridge, and eventually reunite with their companions. Along the journey, the adventurers encounter mysterious omens; a stranger who offers treasure at a very high price; a wild traveler with a mysterious affinity for wolves; strange artifacts from vanished civilizations; traveling folk in search of a song lost millennia ago; and the ever-present threat of Trollocs and their accompanying Myrddraal. This book is a compilation of six previously released comic books in the Wheel of Time graphic adaptation. Being the third installment in a series, this book does not spend time establishing the characters but gives a two-page summary of what happened previously. The artwork is very competent, with noticeable differences in character design between the two illustrators. The book relies heavily on dialogue balloons and lengthy quotations from Jordan's original work; this gives the pages a talkative feel that rarely exploits the strengths of the graphic novel format. The setting and characters should be familiar to fans of the fantasy genre and follow the path worn ages ago by the likes of J. R. R. Tolkien. This book deals with issues of self-discovery, survival, quests, and the consequences of not following directions. Although this book would not be a first choice for the building of a collection, it would nonetheless be an acceptable selection for expanding a well-established graphic novel section. Fantasy fans should find this book engaging and will hopefully be inspired to go and read the original source material. Reviewer: Jonathan Ryder
