The sequel to "Spindoc" takes Venture Silk to Earth 2, home world of his lover, Zia Relanj. He is pursued by Terran intelligence; she is pursued both by her own world's covert operators, who suspect her loyalty, and by a Terran agent who wishes to extract from her body the secret of the life-prolonging drug with which she is being treated. All this means that between bouts of sex, martial-arts training sessions, and target practice, Silk and his lady have a good deal of excitement guarding their backs and just barely succeeding at it. What Perry is doing more and more often is writing a hard-boiled thriller or men's action novel with an sf setting. Since the books are good and he makes no pretense of doing anything grander, readers who like this kind of thing can just settle down for a few hours of good entertainment.
