He sold both companies and retired from the world of technology to focus on his primary love, poetry. These titles taken from The Giant Book of Poetry (available in print and audio versions) contain 12 thematic units: Romance; Inspiration and Faith; Eternity; Loss and Sorrow; Working, Nature, the Human Condition; Poems for Children of All Ages; Growing Up and Growing Old; Poems That Make a Statement; Ghosts and Evil and Superstition; and Lust, Betrayal, and Lost Love. Each of these is subdivided into smaller groups of poems. For example, Poems of Inspiration and Faith is divided into Western Religion, Pagan Religion, Eastern Religion, Questioning Religion, and Inspiration. Poems of Romance includes Courting, Unrequited Love, Beauty, Love, Separation, Redemption, and Commitment. Most poems are brief, but some are longer narrative works such as "My Last Duchess." Authors range from Shakespeare to Japanese haiku masters to Dylan Thomas, Margaret Atwood, Philip Larkin, William Carlos Williams, Archibald MacLeish, Billy Collins, Robert Creeley, Robert Lowell, Adrian Mitchell, and Seamus Heaney. The readers are varied and excellent, pulling listeners into the works with humor, passion, and irony. Each has a deep appreciation for and understanding of the authors' intentions. The Giant Book of Poetry would be an appropriate addition to any library, but these audio CDs would be especially useful, drawing in those reluctant to read poetry themselves. Highly recommended.
