About the Author

From early childhood, Cathy Summar Flynn has expressed an insatiable desire to read and illustrate. She assumed that every blank canvas was anxiously awaiting her masterpiece and that one day she would be famous for them. She cherished her shoebox full of crayons, as well as her priceless collection of children's books. She found constant companionship in her beloved oversized, classic storybooks, frayed at the edges from her loving attention. After reading the stories, she would then promptly set out to recreate the images. Today her ink pen serves as a tool for both writing and illustration. Over the years she wove her gifts in and out of her and her husband's ministry and their business world. There were seasons of experimentation, where she played with different mediums, manifesting in the form of murals, logos, tee-shirt designs, portraitures, clay figurines, and more. For several years Cathy owned an art studio in the teapot capital of the world, Trenton, Tennessee. Even when life would blur her focus, she never stopped making notes, writing stories, sketching, and storing away dreams in the safe deposit of her heart. Lovingly called "Grandmop" by her family, these last several years she has been learning the art of widowhood, adjusting to life outside of the city limits in the Upper Cumberland area of Tennessee. Fueled by her entrepreneurial spirit, she has overcome the dread disease of "SOMEDAY", which has taken so many creative lives. Now armed with her own umbrella company, High Art Forms, LLC., Cathy has developed a new website, creating a gallery for her treasure trove of products. Her prolific line of products is designed to blend humor and diversity. This year Cathy made the swan-dive into the world of animated children's apps. Her book, The Lonely Little Star, and its Spanish version, La Estrellita Solitaria, are both available as animated children's apps. Valuing their unique abilities to use humor as a life-preserver, Cathy takes her creative inspiration from the beloved illustrator, Mary Engelbreit, and the American humorist, Erma Bombeck. Following in their footsteps, her work sets out to prove that there are treasures of joy and laughter buried under the clothes to be ironed. Cathy has always identified with the words from Dr. Seuss's beloved Horton Hears a Who, "I am just a speck in Who-Ville who has a large voice/heart with something to say." Her ultimate goal in life could not be said any better than this by Erma Bombeck, "When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say, 'I used everything you gave me.'" It is said that every portrait contains the reflection of the artist. And if you look closely at Cathy's work, you will recognize that many of her stories do, indeed, mirror her own beautiful experiences.
