The Sermons of Reverend Ethan Acres

This extraordinary collection of six sermons by Reverend Ethan Acres, packaged as a handbound letterpressed booklet, exemplifies a novel aesthetic examining the confused roles of art and religion in public life. Here, the Reverend travels to the Getty Museum, likening the architecture and collections to the alabaster, gold and marble heavens as depicted in Medieval literature. He attends the opening of the Bellagio Fine Art Gallery in Las Vegas, exploring the relationships between fine arts and Sin City. He provides a history of televangelism. In conclusion, he defines art and religion to be Vaudevillian lounge acts of very special kinds. As an ordained, practicing preacher and a fine artist who has exhibited his work internationally, Reverend Acres is uniquely attuned to addressing how religion and entertainment are intertwined. His book also includes six color plates specially designed for the publication. They depict his exploits: "walking on water" on the lakes of the Bellagio, "ascending to heaven" at the Getty, in Rapture while working out on a Stairmaster, and more.
