About the Author

Larry Cauthen was born in Haralson County, Georgia in 1924. He and his siblings were raised on a small farm, a childhood typical for many of that time.

At age 16 he entered West Georgia College in 1941, and in 1942 he entered the Navy V-12 program at Mercer University. He was commissioned an Ensign in 1944, entered Midshipman School at Cornell University, the completed Naval Engineering School, also at Cornell. In 1945, he served as engineering officer on LST 325 and was on his way to the Pacific when World War Two ended.

Back home, he entered the Medical College of Georgia, graduated in 1950 and served as a medical officer at Charleston Naval Hospital for a year during the Korean War. He completed anesthesiology residency in 1955 and settled in Rome Georgia where he practiced until retirement in 1989.

Finally he had time to write historical fiction. He had long been interested in telling a story of American family life and the changes encountered over five generations.
