Good and evil is not always defined or recognizable within the captivating and unique twists of this well-developed fantasy debut that draws on English medieval history with magic for its rich material. Young adult readers will admire and have strong feelings for the ordeals of the heroine, teen Elizabeth, who wants to be on the side of good and believes she is. She also believes she is in love and she is willing to die for her all of her beliefs. The Reformist rebellion is underway and she is a witch hunter. Elizabeth attends the public burnings at the stake of witches and wizards that she has captured; she knows they have to die because they use magic and magic started the plague. However, the public does not always support the king’s rule and necromancers do not always submit to capture. Is it legal for a witch hunter to use magic?
