To the Harvest
This is the story of the travels of Antonio Beltrán, a migrant
farm worker from Mexico. The descriptions of landscapes are
as accurate as the characters in the story, and here is an opportunity
to look at what may be a different side to immigration for
some, because the author has met many of what American
politicians are prone to label "illegal aliens." The story becomes
contemporary by introducing cartel activity that the author
considers the scourge of Mexico. It is also an opportunity to
understand the feelings and concerns of some of our neighbors
south of the border.

About the Author

John Duncklee started living near the United States/Mexico
Border in 1941. Having operated cattle and horse ranches on
both sides of the border, he has many acquaintances in both
Arizona and Sonora, Mexico. He always kept a pot of frijoles
on the stove to host the many migrant farm workers passing
through to find work on the farms to the north. He never
thought of these men as "illegals" and enjoyed their friendships
through the years. In addition to being fluent in Spanish as it is
spoken along the border, these experiences have given Duncklee
an intimate knowledge of those people and the difficulties
they must overcome to be able to send dollars back to their
families in Mexico. Duncklee writes about migrant farm workers
with knowledge and compassion.
Duncklee's published works that include some thirty books and
over a hundred short stories, novellas and poetry are with
"Special Collections" in the University of Arizona Library,
Tucson, Arizona.
