TOKEN'S FLIGHT
In Dormuir, people use their Token abilities to move mountains, control minds, or cause tsunamis. So, Ryla Melor's Token ability to see people's pasts through their personal possessions isn't extraordinary, just inconvenient to be around. It's certainly not helpful to Ryla when the usurping king's minions attack her home, separating her from her family with only a measly plan, a mission to deliver a letter, and the admonition to trust no one, including the resistance, the very people her family is helping.
Unfortunately, stealth completely deserts Ryla. Within two weeks of leaving home, both the king's forces and the resistance are in hot pursuit, and not with offers of marriage. After saving the resistance's elite soldiers- the Mist Riders- and their wannabe heir, they repay her by kindly taking her captive and dragging her from one corner of the country to another, causing the line between ally and enemy to waver. And when enemies turn into nightmarish allies, it entirely crumbles.
But Ryla still has a mission to accomplish. And if she has to outrun ax-wielding citizens, overly persistent captors, and her own frustratingly lack of luck, then her aggressive stubbornness might just see her through it. Probably. Hopefully.
Unfortunately, not even chocolate helps with that kind of stress.
