About the Author

Jeannine Q. Norris was inspired to write Tonight You Are My Baby, her first picture book, when she became a mother. She realized that Mary's sharing her baby with the world is part of the miracle of Christmas. Jeannine shall donate a portion of her proceeds from this book to the At Least Kids Foundation, started by the Norris family to help the incredibly brave kids fighting pediatric brain cancer. Jeannine lives in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, with her husband and two children.

Tim Ladwig has illustrated more than fifteen picture books, including Psalm Twenty-Three, The Lord's Prayer, and Good King Wenceslas. He lives in Wichita, Kansas, with his wife and three children.

Two-line rhymes and an intermittent refrain tell the story of the birth of the Christ child. The mother's refrain: "Tomorrow you will be king, but tonight you are my baby..." emphasizes the human element of the story. The other-worldly element is told in the rhyme: "As I cradle you gently, the answer is quite clear, strength comes from you, my babe, in my arms right here." The pictures show a mother's delight in holding her baby aloft, cuddling him, and a cozy scene of Mary and a smiling Joseph sitting on the floor near the Christ child in a hay-filled, box-shaped manger in Bethlehem. Before the shepherds and Wise Men arrive, Mary says, "I smile into your loving eyes and give you one more kiss. This quiet time with you, my son, is what I'm going to miss."
