Overview

When Vicky and her mom pack up and move across the city to a new neighborhood, it means switching schools and leaving behind her best friend and her soccer team. Now she'll have to try out for goalkeeper with her former rivals, deal with racism at her new school, and struggle to maintain loyalty to her old friends while making new ones. Vicky is awesome in net and tries to keep focused on her goals and the game she loves, but it's not easy without the support of her friends and family.

Soccer is Vicky Parker's passion. She is the goalkeeper for the Killarney Ravens Junior Girls Soccer team. Her best friend, Parminder, is a midfielder. The two love to play the game. They are Ravens forever until Vicky's mother informs her daughter that she landed a new job and that they are moving to a new apartment. The move includes having to attend Dunbar Secondary School, Killarney's rival. New school, team, and friends make for many adjustments in Vicky's life. Her special, red jersey trimmed with gold seems to be a comfort to her when she plays soccer. Vicky has been wearing and tucking in the large jersey since she was eight; however, with the changes, she faces different conflicts and discovers a few surprises as she continues playing soccer.
