What does shooting the man who raped your fiance get you? For Green Bay detective Cale Van Waring, it amounts to a week-long suspension. Instead of sitting around feeling sorry for himself, however, Cale decides to work "off-the-grid." Trail of Evil follows the detective's search for a pair of missing victims in a recent human trafficking case. In Rome, he encounters professional hit men; in Belgium, a Middle Eastern oil billionaire with a penchant for sexual fetishes; and in Liberia, a military colonel who may-or-may-not be an African witch doctor. All these encounters spell imminent danger. But with the aid of a hired Czech mercenary and his team, aided by an American ICE agent, Cale manages to dodge knives, bullets, and voodoo hexes.

But Cale must set aside his emotions while he continues his search-and-rescue mission, trying to locate a pair of missing females who are enslaved by an international trafficking ring. Will time run out before he can rescue them? Can he somehow survive and return home in one piece?
