PATRICIA DANIELS has been an author and editor for National Geographic. She has written and edited books on history, science, and geography for both children and adults and was an author for National Geographic's Body: The Complete Human. Patricia lives in State College, Pennsylvania. 

CHRISTINA WILSDON grew up on Long Island in New York. She has written numerous kids books about animals and science. Christina lives with her family in the Pacific Northwest, where bald eagles nest in the city and orcas surface just offshore. This is Christina's first book with National Geogrpahic. Designed to engage children on all topics related to the body, this robust and engaging National Geographic text is a must for a library or homeschooling environment. The large, color illustrations provide helpful clues to understanding human anatomy. Medical information is conveyed in an age-appropriate way that is not condescending. While a lot of information is repeated, the text is meant to reinforce positive health habits such as hand-washing and healthy eating. Color photographs depict diverse people of all ages, and many sidebars connect information about humans to animals, such as how “heterochromia,” having two different color eyes, is rare in people but common in dogs. The chapters cover the basics of human anatomy; skin, nails, and hair; bone structure and muscles; the digestive system; urinary, pulmonary and respiratory systems; the brain; touch, smell, hearing, seeing, feeling; reproduction and puberty; staying healthy; and a look ahead to bodies in the future. Other features include a body atlas, glossary and index. This book is geared towards students between ages 7 and 10, although older curious children will glean helpful information as well.
