About The Author
Rex Stout (1886-1975) is renown as the creator of Nero Wolfe, the corpulent armchair detective aided by his narrator-assistant Archie Goodwin. In all, he wrote 70 detective novels, 46 of them featuring Wolfe. Counting novellas and short stories, he produced a total of 72 Nero Wolfe mysteries. Stout got his start writing for the pulp magazines, but later turned to detective novels, with the character Nero Wolfe first appeared in 1934 in Fer-de-Lance. Stout went on to chair the War Writers’ Board, served as President of the Authors Guild, and headed the Mystery Writers of America. In 1958 he was honored with the Mystery Writers of America Grand Master Award and has been called the “Grand Old Man of American Crime Fiction.”
