About the Author

The author served in the British Army during the Cold War after reading modern languages at Jesus College, Oxford. Over the course of his career he spent a good deal of time gathering military intelligence in communist eastern Europe. This included three years as a ground operations officer with the British Commander-in-Chief's Mission to the Soviet Forces in (East) Germany, and four years as a military attaché at the British Embassy in Warsaw. He is now retired and lives with his wife in Wiltshire.
