About the Author

Saint Sir Thomas More (1478-1535) was an English Catholic churchman, barrister, statesman, and councillor. Recognized as a saint in the Catholic Church, More was an important advisor to Henry VIII of England and opposed the latter's attempts to separate the Church of England from Rome. More also opposed the Protestant Reformation, wrote against Martin Luther, and opposed Tyndale's efforts to translate the Bible into English. More refused to swear allegiance to Henry VIII as head of the Church of England and was tried for treason and beheaded in 1535.
