About the Author

Richard learned to drive in a Beetle and has owned one, or more, ever since. He still uses a Beetle on a daily basis, covering over 20,000 miles a year. The owner, since new, of one of the last 300 Beetles produced for the British market, Richard also derives great pleasure from a 1960 standard model with ‘crash’ gearbox and cable brakes. A concours entrant and judge many years, Richard has been a member of the Historic Volkswagen Club since 1983, Editor of The Historic VW magazine since 1995 and - writing about classic Volkswagens - a regular contributor to Total VW magazine.
