Description: The fourth edition of this book follows its predecessor by five years. It provides broad coverage of physics for the clinical anesthetist, including MRI and depth of anesthesia.
Purpose: The authors have succeeded in producing a volume at a level between undergraduate and graduate physics that will help the clinician deliver anesthesia care safely.
Audience: The authors have backgrounds spanning both physics and anesthesiology.
Features: The book is compact and the writing clear and concise. All illustrations are black-and-white. No references are included. SI units are used, which at times is awkward for readers accustomed to English units.
Assessment: This is a useful volume for the individual anesthetist who does not already have a book of this type. Teaching libraries might also benefit from having a nonrigorous treatment of the physics of anesthesia on their shelves. Explaining the principles of physics can sometimes benefit from colored illustrations or even multimedia. This work might be quite effective as such on a CD-ROM.
