How an American-Educated Iraqi Citizen left the Oilfields of Iraq for the Plains of Texas. This biography of Fuad Toma begins in Turkey in 1914 with his father, a soldier who decides to escape the Armenian and Christian massacre, settles in Iraq and begins a new life. The story follows Fuad, who at age 16 is the only member in his family to go to college in the United States. Upon his return to Iraq, he is employed at the Iraq Petroleum Company, at the time run by the British. He remains an employee with the oil company even after Iraq is nationalized and then run by Saddam Hussain. The story then follows Fuad and his family move to the US. It is a unique insight into the life of a man during a unique period in time.
