Will you be my Mother? The quest to answer yes
Eight years ago, journalist Jennifer Haupt went to Rwanda in the wake of devastating genocide to find stories of faith and forgiveness. A young woman approached Haupt in the genocide museum and asked if she would be her mother and give her guidance. It was an eye-opening and heart-opening experience. Haupt realized that she was yearning to find something in herself: the courage to answer yes. This e-book is three stories from one mother’s journey to love better and connect more deeply with her children, her own mom, and the world.

All author profits ($1 per book), until May 30, 2014, will be donated to mothers2mothers, a nonprofit organization that trains, employs, and empowers mothers living with HIV in sub-Sahara Africa.

This is a short e-book published by Shebooks--high quality fiction, memoir, and journalism for women, by women. For more information, visit shebooks.net

"Jennifer Haupt writes poignantly about the connections and missed connections between mothers and daughters--the love, the silence, the longing. With eloquence and grace, she shares a series of stories that reveal how our first relationship imprints and influences us forever." -- Hope Edelman, Motherless Daughters

“This hauntingly beautiful memoir begins by linking the words ‘courage’ and ‘love.’ It is an appropriate beginning to three stories that are searingly personal and deeply courageous, all revolving around the true meaning of motherhood. From Rwanda to Kenya, to her own childhood in the US, Jennifer Haupt leads us on a journey to explore the vulnerability, compassion, and caring it takes to care for another with an open heart and open mind.” -- Robin Smalley, Executive Director, mothers2mothers

"Jennifer Haupt writes with astonishing honesty and kindness about her desire to do good in the world, and peels back her life to the roots of that desire, back to the heartbreaking childhood death of her sister. Haupt comes to understand how loss has shaped her life, and she embarks on a quest to turn that loss—that depression—into healing, for herself, for her own mother, for her children and for the world’s children who have suffered. Haupt is a hero in my book: venturing into the darkest places, facing her deepest fears, finding—and creating—light." --Laura Fraser, Editorial Director, Shebooks.net
