In a continuation of Witch, Holly Cathers learns that Jer, a warlock who helped her, is still alive and vows to find him. One of her cousins, Nicole, has run away to Germany in order to save herself but feels bad about leaving Holly and her sister Amanda to fend for themselves. As things heat up between the Cathers/Anderson Coven and the Supreme Coven, Warlock Michael Deveraux swears to get rid of all the Cahors witches. Holly has to use her powers to save her friends and to keep searching for Jer, who had gone against his father. The story moves from place to place as the rival covens feud and Holly tries to learn her destiny. Readers of the first book will enjoy the second one. (sequel to Wicked: Witch). Gr 7 Up-In this second book in the series, Holly and her cousins Amanda and Nicole are still ensconced in a feud with the evil Deveraux warlocks. Nicole is traveling throughout Europe trying to deny that she is a witch and to avoid giving in to the guilt she feels for having abandoned her family and the coven. Ghostly ancestors from both sides-some decomposing, some inhabiting their relatives' bodies, some seemingly intact-help to fuel the animosity between the clans. Unfortunately, the great battle (and the assumed climax of the story) stops abruptly, without giving readers any clue as to why. The plot is confusing and transports characters from one time period to another, one astral plane to the next, with little explanation. There are too many characters and too many subplots to keep track of, and nothing seems resolved or completely fleshed out. There is not a single sympathetic character in the bunch, and it is difficult to tell throughout much of the book the difference between the good guys and the bad.-Kimberly L.
